The Phillyjazz website has been around about as long as the Word-Wide-Web. Begun as a project in 1995, when I was a bored IT Manager at Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), it has continued to grow with the help of the active Philadelphia area Jazz scene, especially its musicians.
I am frequently asked via email why I concentrate so little on the masters such as Coltrane, Dizzy Lee Morgan etc. Quite frankly, it’s because they are dead .. like, deceased, dig?? It would be a full-time job to honour all who were born or came of musical age here. This is not my full-time job.
It’s just my hour-or-so-a-day contribution to a great city, and the wonderful talents who reside and perform in these environs. Support these cats (and ladies) … they still need to eat!!
I’m now married with kids, and don’t get around as much as I’d like. Any help you can give me in updating this site is appreciated. If you are a legitimate Philly musician or club owner, and are not represented here, notify me (but please spare the attitude if I missed you.. I’m only human.). Have fun, and check back often. Please email with any comments or recommendations!
Phillyjazz.org is brought to you in part through the generosity of the Philadelphia Jazz Project.
