Eric Shaw

Sad News .. Pianist, singer and all-around hipster Eric Spiegel (AKA Eric Shaw) passed on July 4th, 2006.

Eric Shaw is a wonderful singer, pianist and teacher. He was best known in the seventies for his collaboration with female vocalist Wendy Simon, together known as "Tuxedo Junction" and later, "52nd Street". Eric has also played with Philly Joe Jones, Slide Hampton and other well-known artists.

Eric sings in an infectiously humorous style, favoring tunes from artists such as Tom Waits, Dave Frishberg and Mose Allison. A student of Dennis Sandole, he may play intensely modern harmonies in one chorus, and break into a Fats Waller-inspired stride groove the next.

A sensitive accompanist, Eric Shaw is a favorite of many female vocalists including Suzanne Cloud, Anne Sciolla and Andrea Pincus. Eric mostly plays the suburbs these days since as he says "the downtown clubs aren't paying shit." He can often be heard at The Roadhouse, on RT. 73 in Skippack, PA.
