    DreamBox Media, in an earlier incarnation known as Encounter Records (back when they were actual records) is the brainchild of Philadelphia adopted-son, Jim Miller, realized with assistance from singer-activist-Doctoral candidate Suzanne Cloud.  Originally from Indiana (which has no bridge), he became instantly enchanted  with our Jazz scene (yes that could happen in the mid-seventies here) and had graced thousands of club dates, recording sessions and jams since his arrival.  Not content to just play, the music, Jim has undertaken the unenviable struggle to make our hometown heroes better-heard outside the confines of the 215 area code.

    Ever the realist, Mr. Miller is frank and candid with artists (and himself) about what an independent CD may or may not do for one's career.  DreamBox Media is a label dedicated to pretty-much straight-ahead (the Bill-Evans-ish Joe Hunt Trio) as well as some more progressive sounds (like the urban electric sounds of jef lee johnson.) DreamBox draws the line at the musical pabulum popularly known as "Smooth Jazz."  You can pretty much rest assured that if you pick a random CD from this label, that you will enjoy its contents if you consider yourself a fan of "real jazz."
